3 Day / 2 Night Safari to a Private Game Reserve

The remarkable experience of a private game reserve awaits you in South Africa's northernmost reaches, near the town of Hoedspruit in the province of Limpopo.

Here Africa's "Big five" - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros - are waiting to introduce you into their world.

Itinerary:

Day 1

We take an early morning departure from Johannesburg, 0 R Tambo International Airport or Pretoria, and head north along the N12 passing the towns of Witbank, Belfast and Dullstroom, before turning off towards Lydenburg and Ohrigstad. Just before Hoedspruit we stop for a light midday meal under the shade of one of the largest baobab trees in the country. We then make our way to a farm on the banks of the scenic Blyde River to make the acquaintance of the tame hippo, before our arrival at a private game reserve, our home for the next few days. We have time to unpack and relax before our first, late afternoon game drive in open game viewing vehicles under the guidance of expert game rangers. Dinner is a traditional South Afncan affair in a boma - a reed enclosure under the stars. Tuck into braaivleis, pap (maize meal) and sauce, salad and potbrood (break baked on coals), followed by dessert.

Day 2

Another early-morning start, eased with tea, coffee and biscuits before embarking on a bush walk in the company of orphaned cheetahs. The experience reveals a detailed view of the bush not obvious from a vehicle - a world of insects, plants and birds all engaged in frantic activity. Back at the camp it's time for a hearty breakfast, relaxation and lazing around the swimming pool. Lunch is light and in the late afternoon we enjoy a rare and close-up encounter with lions in a breeding camp, where tuberculosis-free lions are raised. Gain some insight into thts fascinating programme, before returning to home base for another evening under African skies and a meal of oxtail or chicken with rice, salads and dessert.

Day 3

Our bush sojourn comes to an end today, but we go off in style, making our way after breakfast back to Gauteng through the world-famous Panorama Route in the province of Mpumalanga. The word 'spectacular' hardly describes the scenery here and we take our time stopping off at such jaw-dropping wonders of nature such as Three Rondavels, God's Window, The Pinnacle and Bridal Veil Falls. We arrive back in Johannesburg in the late afternoon, much the richer from our adventure.
